With an 825 MW Landmark Investment, Aksa Enerji Strengthens Its Position as One of Africa’s Leading Power Producers

Aksa Enerji is undertaking one of Ghana’s largest natural gas power plant investments through the development of an 825 MW combined cycle natural gas power plant in Takoradi. Following the completion of its Kumasi and Takoradi projects, the Company’s total installed capacity in Ghana will reach 1,545 MW, making Aksa Enerji the country’s largest independent power producer and a key contributor to Ghana’s energy security.

Operating 14 power plants across eight countries with a total installed capacity exceeding 3,500 MW, Aksa Enerji continues to expand its global footprint through strategic investments across Africa. The Company has signed a 20-year, US dollar-denominated Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for the Takoradi Combined Cycle Natural Gas Power Plant, which will have an installed capacity of 825 MW. Under the agreement, Aksa Enerji will be responsible for the development, construction, operation, electricity generation, and guaranteed sale of the power produced by the plant.

Located in Takoradi, one of Ghana’s key industrial hubs, the combined cycle natural gas power plant will contribute significantly to the country’s long-term energy security and economic development through its high efficiency and operational flexibility. In addition to supporting Ghana’s growing electricity demand with reliable and sustainable energy, the project will foster local employment, strengthen the domestic supply chain, and enhance technical capabilities.

2,240 MW Power Generation Portfolio Across Africa

Following its investments in Tema and Kumasi, Aksa Enerji is further strengthening its presence in Ghana with the Takoradi project. Together with its operations in Senegal, Gabon, and Burkina Faso, the Company’s total installed capacity across Africa will reach 2,240 MW.

With a strategic 1,545 MW generation platform in Ghana, Aksa Enerji is reinforcing its role not only as an investor but also as a long-term strategic energy partner supporting industrial development, strengthening energy infrastructure, and contributing to sustainable economic growth across the markets in which it operates.

“We Are Building an Energy Portfolio That Creates Long-Term Value Across Africa”

Commenting on the agreement, Naci Ağbal, CEO and Executive Board Member of Aksa Enerji, said: “Our investment strategy in Africa is built on four key pillars: expanding scale, diversifying our portfolio, investing in lower-carbon generation technologies, and delivering sustainable long-term growth. The 825 MW Takoradi Combined Cycle Natural Gas Power Plant represents one of the most significant milestones of our long-term growth strategy on the continent.

Together with our Kumasi and Takoradi investments, we will increase our total installed capacity in Ghana to 1,545 MW, establishing one of the country’s largest international private-sector power generation platforms. We view Ghana not merely as a market where we operate, but as a long-term strategic partner.

Through this landmark investment, we are making a meaningful contribution to Ghana’s energy security while reinforcing our sustainable global growth strategy and strengthening our long-term leadership vision across Africa.”
