The Ghana Fuel Oil Power Plant was completed in just 9.5 months and commissioned in 2017. The plant has 15 Wärtsilä 18V50 engines and 7 Wärtsilä 18V46 gas engines. In October 2022, Aksa Energy Production Inc. and ECG (Electricity Company of Ghana), the electricity transmission and distribution company of the Republic of Ghana, signed a new 15-year, US dollar-based energy sales agreement covering the supply of electricity from this 370 MW dual-fuel power plant.
The dual-fuel conversion project for the 15 Wärtsilä 18V50 engines at the power plant was completed in March 2025, enabling fuel flexibility and aiming to reduce carbon emissions.
